What do we need?

We are currently recruiting for a Costs Lawyer for our Billing Team to be based in our Liverpool Office. You will be part of our in-house team which services various legal departments across the Group dealing with a variety of case work for our Clinical Negligence, Court of Protection, Civil Liberties, General Litigation, Family and Immigration teams. 

Overall purpose of the role:

To provide first rate legal services to our clients according to their specific needs, ensuring full compliance with policies and procedures laid out by the group and by regulatory bodies.  To always act as an ambassador for the group, actively promoting its services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide and effective, timely and efficient service to firm’s clients in accordance with department SLAs
  • Manage own caseload from start to finish
  • Preparing Bills of Costs (including electronic bills) and Costs Budgets, as well as drafting Replies and Points of Dispute. The role also includes negotiations and advocacy as required.
  • Ensure that personal and department KPIs and Minimum Requirements are achieved. 
  • Develop solid working relationships with client legal teams and give feedback 
  • To ensure that legal and cost knowledge/ skills are kept up to date and that CPD training (where applicable) is completed. 

What we’re looking for:

Essential

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a legal costs role, preferably Claimant-centric
  • Ability to work under own initiative and manage time and priorities effectively
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence to engage with internal/external stakeholders
  • Advocacy experience
  • Passion, drive and approachable

Desirable

  • Proficient with Cost Master and Proclaim
  • Ability to train, manage and motivate people
