Overall Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Negligence Solicitor to join our specialist Clinical Negligence team. The successful candidate will manage a complex caseload of high value and catastrophic injury claims, including brain injury, cerebral palsy, spinal injury, fatal claims, delayed diagnosis, surgical negligence and other life-changing injury cases.

This role offers the opportunity to act for seriously injured clients and their families, providing expert legal advice and securing compensation to meet long-term care, rehabilitation and support needs. The successful candidate will be a technically strong litigator with excellent client care skills and a commitment to achieving outstanding outcomes for vulnerable clients.

Key accountabilities:

Case Management

  • Manage a caseload of complex claimant clinical negligence cases from initial enquiry through to settlement or trial.
  • Lead on high value and catastrophic injury claims, including multi-million-pound cases.
  • Develop and implement effective litigation strategies to maximise client outcomes.
  • Conduct detailed investigations into liability, causation and quantum.
  • Instruct and liaise with leading Counsel, medical experts and other professionals.
  • Draft pleadings, witness statements, schedules of loss and other legal documentation.
  • Attend conferences, Joint Settlement Meetings, mediations, inquests and court hearings as required.
  • Ensure all limitation periods, procedural deadlines and case milestones are met.

Client Care

  • Build trusted relationships with clients and their families, providing clear, practical and empathetic advice.
  • Support vulnerable clients through often traumatic and life-changing circumstances.
  • Maintain regular communication and provide timely updates throughout the life of the claim.
  • Deliver an exceptional standard of client service at all times.

Financial and Risk Management

  • Achieve departmental billing, recovery and profitability targets.
  • Maintain accurate time recording and file management.
  • Ensure compliance with SRA regulations, firm policies and quality standards.
  • Identify and manage risk throughout the lifecycle of each claim.

Business Development

  • Develop relationships with referrers, rehabilitation providers, charities and professional contacts.
  • Participate in networking events, conferences and marketing initiatives.
  • Contribute to team growth and the development of the firm's clinical negligence practice.
  • Produce articles, publications and thought leadership content where appropriate.

Team Contribution

  • Support, supervise and mentor junior solicitors, trainees and paralegals.
  • Participate in file reviews and training initiatives.
  • Share knowledge and best practice across the team.
What do you need: 

Essential

  • Qualified Solicitor with a minimum of 5 years' PQE in Clinical Negligence.
  • Proven experience handling complex, high value claimant clinical negligence matters.
  • Strong track record of managing catastrophic injury claims, including brain injury, spinal injury and birth injury cases.
  • Experience of litigation through to trial where appropriate.
  • Excellent drafting, analytical and negotiation skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of litigation funding.
  • Ability to manage a demanding caseload independently.
  • Exceptional communication and client care skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Accredited Specialist Panel Membership (AvMA, Law Society Clinical Negligence Accreditation or equivalent).
  • Experience supervising junior team members.
  • Existing referrer network or business development experience.
  • Experience managing cases involving substantial future care and accommodation claims.
