What do we need?

We are looking to recruit an experienced Clinical Negligence Solicitor (grade A or B) to join our team in Liverpool, based at Walker House. This is a key role managing a complex, high-value claimant caseload, where you will take full ownership of cases from instruction through to conclusion while delivering a professional, responsive and high-quality service to clients.

You will play an important part in maintaining our high standards of client care and contributing to the continued success and growth of the Clinical Negligence team.

Overall Purpose:

To lead on the delivery of a professional, responsive and high-quality legal service within the Clinical Negligence team, managing a complex and high-value claimant caseload. The role holder will take ownership of significant and often multi-million-pound matters, contribute to team leadership and development, and play a key role in maintaining high standards of client care, compliance and performance across the department.

Key Accountabilities:

  • To manage a complex caseload of claimant Clinical Negligence matters, including catastrophic injury and high-value claims, taking full responsibility for all stages of conduct from instruction through to conclusion. 
  • To act as lead fee earner on multi-million-pound and high-profile cases, developing case strategy, overseeing progression and ensuring optimal client outcomes. 
  • To work closely with the Team Head on departmental objectives, including financial performance, case progression and risk management. 
  • To undertake detailed legal analysis, draft complex pleadings and documentation, and provide clear, technically sound advice to clients. 
  • To build and maintain strong relationships with clients, Counsel, medical experts and other stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor on sensitive and complex matters. 
  • To attend conferences with Counsel, joint settlement meetings, mediations and court hearings, representing clients with confidence and professionalism. 
  • To proactively manage risk, limitation dates and key milestones across your caseload, always ensuring efficient progression and compliance. 
  • To ensure all files are maintained in line with regulatory standards including SRA, Lexcel and firm-wide policies. 
  • To contribute to business development activity, including networking, profile raising and supporting the growth of the Clinical Negligence offering. 
  • To support audit processes, file reviews and continuous improvement initiatives within the team. 
  • To undertake any additional responsibilities as required by the Team Head or wider management team.

Key Experience & Skills

  • Qualified Solicitor with ideally 6+ years’ PQE in Clinical Negligence. 
  • Strong track record of handling high-value, complex and catastrophic injury Clinical Negligence claims independently. 
  • Experience leading cases through litigation, including involvement in trial preparation and settlement negotiations. 
  • Demonstrable experience of supervising or mentoring junior colleagues. 
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of financial performance, billing and profitability within a legal environment. 
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage a demanding caseload effectively. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a confident and client-focused approach. 
  • High levels of empathy, professionalism and discretion when dealing with vulnerable clients. 
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to compliance, risk management and quality standards. 
  • Experience using case management systems and working within a regulated environment. 
  • A genuine passion for Clinical Negligence work and delivering outstanding client outcomes.
