Those granted refugee status in the UK have special provisions to allow their family members to join them here. This is limited to family members from before you departed your country of origin for the UK:
- Partners - These can be spouses, civil partners or unmarried partners where you can evidence two years prior cohabitation. They must have been your partner from before you left for the UK.
- Children – They must be under 18 and unmarried
Other family members such as adult children or parents are not presently included in the immigration rules. This has been a subject of debate lately and it is possible this may change. If not, applications for discretionary entry clearance are an option but these are challenging.
These applications do not attract a Home Office application fee and are processed reasonably quickly. If successful, your family members are granted leave to enter in line with the family member in the UK.
