“I’m so sorry, Mrs X, but your husband has got a serious brain injury and is unlikely to be able to lead a normal life.”

These are shattering words for anyone to hear. If they follow an episode of negligence by a hospital or doctor, the devastation felt by the family can be mixed with anger, and a wish to know what happened, and why.

It is often emotions like these that prompt such families to consider a clinical negligence claim. At Jackson Lees, we have acted for dozens of brain injured patients and their families. We have experience of both the complex legal and medical issues that must be considered, but also of the practical difficulties facing the patient and their family.

We have dealt with cases where the brain injury has led to the break up of the family unit, and those where families are exhausted by the round-the-clock care needed, and by battling with statutory agencies for financial and practical support. We know that many families have had to give up work to care for the injured person, and that this has caused financial and emotional problems.

We know that the very real worry for many families is that of what will happen to their relative if they should outlive them, especially at a time when economic austerity means that budgets and benefits are being slashed and the future seems uncertain. It is often worries like these that cause them to consider bringing a claim for compensation.

At Jackson Lees, we have over 21 years experience of dealing with Clinical Negligence cases. We have a team of lawyers, several of whom hold specialist panel memberships which demonstrate their expertise in clinical negligence matters, and employ a number of former medical professionals including nurses, midwives and a doctor.

This experience allows us to investigate clients’ cases in depth, and to fight for compensation on behalf of some of the most vulnerable members of society. We have obtained compensation in excess of £1m for over a dozen brain injured clients over the years – money that was desperately needed to pay for the care, equipment and therapies that they require to allow them the best possible quality of life, and to keep them secure and protected throughout their life.

We are currently acting for many more brain injured clients and their families, including cases of brain injuries at birth and are proud to think that our knowledge and expertise will allow us to help them at a time when they need it most.
