The inquest into the death of William Lound, known to his family as “Will”, will begin on Monday 8 January 2018.

Will was killed on 7th February 2016 by Lee Arnold, who pleaded guilty to his murder on 11 July 2016 and is serving a sentence of life imprisonment. Lee Arnold had an established diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia and a number of significant previous convictions.

Less than a month before Will’s murder Lee Arnold appeared in court having breached bail conditions imposed in December 2015. He was given new bail conditions which included reporting to a police station three times per week. These bail conditions were not monitored nor enforced.

Key questions the inquest must now address are:

  • The evaluation and management of Lee Arnold’s risk by Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust, which was responsible for his treatment and care.
  • The involvement of Greater Manchester Police and their actions.

Mrs Lound (Will’s mother) will be releasing a statement through Victoria Williams at North News and Pictures on conclusion of the Inquest and has requested that any media enquiries are made through her (07712784326 / 0191 265 7624) as she does not wish to be contacted directly.

The family is represented by Leanne Devine and Jenny Fraser of Broudie Jackson Canter Solicitors, Kate Stone of Garden Court North Chambers and previously represented by Catherine O’Borne of Garden Court Chambers.
