Our Civil Liberties team have an opening for a Paralegal to join their team based in our Liverpool Office
Key Information
Title: Paralegal – Civil Liberties (Actions Against the Police/ Inquests)
Reports to: Head of Civil Liberties (Alexandra Jones)
Location: Walker House, Liverpool (Hybrid)
Purpose of Role: To provide support to the team and our clients.
Key Accountabilities:
- Assist lawyers with their cases by reviewing and drafting legal documents, preparing instructions to Counsel, taking new enquiries and attending on client meetings.
- Attending court and conferences with lawyers, counsel, and clients, including the civil courts and Coroner’s courts.
- Chase outstanding tasks and disclosure requests.
- Update clients on their cases.
- Administer Legal Aid applications and tasks on the CCMS portal.
- Attend relevant training courses and team meetings.
- Undertake any other reasonable tasks that would assist the team and the Firm, including administrative tasks.
- Responsible for achieving own chargeable hours targets.
Key Experience:
- Passionate about human rights, representing individuals against the state, and supporting bereaved families
- Good organisational skills
- Attention to detail
- Able to work well as part of a team
- Competent use of I.T / case management software
- Excellent client care
- Previous experience of Legal Aid work preferred
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and time management skills
- Law degree or paralegal experience preferred
